Black Monday
As expected, Andy Reid and the Eagles parted ways. I am not surprised, but disappointed. Reid, the greatest coach in franchise history will never get his due, but in my opinion, he is a Sure Fire, First Ballot Hall of Famer. Every year he put a competitive team out there, something the coaches before him did not do. He was above average in the draft, he made smart signings and got rid of most players right before they were done.
Unfortunately, in Philadelphia, he will be known as the guy who got them close, but never won a championship. He did get them to 5 NFC Championships in 14 years, which is incredible. I hope he lands in a great spot and continues his winning ways.
Coaching in the NFL is tough, you get far too much credit and blame for your team's performance. Only so much a coach can do, I would think prepare your team each week and hope you get lucky. But when a lot goes wrong, it's the coach who ultimately takes the blame. And for Andy Reid, it was just time for him to move on. In another city, he could have been a lifer, but in Philly, unless you win championships, you are a complete failure.
I don't believe the Eagles need to make a huge splash with a coach, they just need to get a guy who can prepare this team week in and week out. And let's hope with a last place schedule next season and Nick Foles plays to his potential, the Eagles are sitting in the playoffs.
